Christmas in the Manger (A Pat-And-Peek Book)
Published in Paperback by HarperFestival (October, 1995)
Authors: Nola Buck and Felicia Bond

So well done
This is the first time I have taken the time to write an Amazon review although I regularly use those written by others. I went to the book store to look at several book Christmas books including those that introduce the Nativity story and found this one to be excellent for my 2.5 year old. As mentioned in the other reviews, the text is rhythmic and simple, the pictures are large and easily discernable and it is just a perfect 1st introduction to the Nativity story. My daughter is "reading" it back to me already.

Absolutely adorable!!!
This book has the cutest little drawings of baby Jesus depicted so sweetly! It's written in simple poem fashion that will draw the attention of your little one, all the while expressing that even the stable animals were an important part in the birth of our Lord and Savior! A must have for every family with children or grandchildren. Don't hesitate...BUY THIS BOOK! <><

Christmas in the Manger
My 2.5 year old son was given this book for Christmas. It is a wonderful way to introduce children to the concept of "baby Jesus." It's simple, rhythmic like a poem and the illustrations aren't overdone. I read him the book then he takes it and reads the first line back to me on each page (I am the Star, I am the Donkey, etc.) I highly recommend it to parents wanting to introduce the reason for Christmas in a very simplistic way.

Second Edition delivers...
Great photos, but especially liked the personal accounts.

Second Edition is great
Loaded with up-to-date records and statistics, this second edition of the bucks and bulls record book is a great tool and an interesting read. It doesn't matter if you live in the eastern U.S., South or Midwest, you don't have to have mule deer and elk in your state in order to appreciate this book. If you love to hunt big game, buy this book.

COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS, Second Edition
I love this book because of all the photos and detailed hunting stories. The book is easy to read because the type is big.

Hey, Little Baby!

The Absolute Best Book Ever
This is an awesome book for any 2-3 year old, big sibling. The poor mother's haggard face is a sight to behold. My daughter loved it...especially the end where she came to realize that it is her duty to teach everything she knows to her baby brother. My daughter is now 4 and still likes to have this one read to her.

Awesome sibbling book!
I love this book for my 3-year old daughter. I purchased this book when she was just beginning to walk and talk because the story and illustrations were amazingly true to life. I believe this book helped my daughter see her own potential as she was learning to walk, stomp her feet, and eat spaghetti. Great up-beat rhythm that is fun for both of us. For our next baby, I plan to keep reading this book so my daughter understands that she will be the "big sister" one day. "Hey, Little Baby!" is one book that is very much a part of our lives. Highly recommend this book and often share it as a great, sibbling book with friends.

An Adorable Book
Very rarely a book comes along that a parent doesn't mind reading over and over again! My 3 year old daughter and 1 year old son both love this book. The illustrations are so incredibly cute...my daughter loves pointing out all the details in the pictures...the cat being her favorite character. It's easy for me to relate to the expressions of the mother, and the story sums up the life and antics of an older sibling to a T. We got this for our daugher shortly before our son was born and she's yet to tire of it. I'd definitely recommend purchasing this book.

Obsessive Love
Published in Paperback by Bantam Books (01 June, 1992)
Author: Craig Buck
Average review score:

Great book!
I'll advise all the people who are in an unhealthy relationship to buy this book. This book will open your eyes and break that pattern of obsessive behavior.

Healing and Moving on...
This book helped me break the Infatuation Cycles I had developed. It is written in a very concise and non-invasive way so as not to offend and make you feel...well...like a deranged and sick person. My behavior was deranged and sick, but after reading this book I made a determined and solid decision to move on AND not look back. I have not repeated my Obsessive Cycle since.

Very helpful
When I first got this book, I was so addicted to a person that I did not realize I was stalking him and invading his privacy. This book deals out some harsh truth in the beginning. At first I felt no sympathy for my painful ordeal and I couldn't read it. I would recommend reading this book after you have explored why you are the way you are and accepted that are obsessed or addicted to a person. Before reading this book, you might want to try How to Break an Addiction to a Person. That book is a little more sympathetic to how you feel and it helps you to understand why you are acting the way you act. Once you come to terms with yourself and your problems, read Obsessive Love. It gives clear concise directions on how to stop obsessing using behavior conditioning. The psychological techniques in this book really work because they do not focus on appealing to your logical mind but to your illogical emotions and thoughts. This book also provides some insight on how you got this way and it helps you to understand how the person you are obsessing over feels. That is important. This is a great book that really helps deal with a sickness appropriately. It is not a quick fix it is not cheesy. It deals you the truth and then tells you exercises to do everyday to help you deal with the pain. It takes work and dedication to make yourself a healthier person but with this book, you can do it.

The Buck Book/All Sorts of Things to Do With a Dollar Bill-Besides Spend It/Book and Dollar Bill
Published in Spiral-bound by Klutz, Inc (July, 1993)
Author: Anne Akers Johnson
Average review score:

Had it as a kid--loved it then and love it now
I got this for Christmas one year when I was in elementary school and was instantly fascinated by it. I still pull it off the shelf every now and then (I just graduated college) when I want to make a dollar-bill elephant. This book is a LOT of fun for kids and parents alike. It's something parents can give to their kids to provide them with a fun activity that's creative and useful--you'd be surprised how much a waiter appreciates a crummy tip when it's folded up into the shape of a frog that leaps. A co-worker of mine just got it for her kids who are 10, 11 and 12 years old, and they love it too. Definitely fun for all ages. Very well-written (funny and witty) with clear directions. I highly recommend it!!

THE BOOK WITH WONDERFUL PROJECTS IN IDIOT FRIENDLY FORMAT
Wonderful spiral bound book with very thoughtful and painstaking
detail to dialog along with good graphics.

The author didn't make it easy for herself by giving the reader a glossary of terms on the folds and expecting the reader to commit them to memory before proceeding on.

You are literally walked through each project in such a way that you will get professional results the 1st time, in minutes.

The best I've read so far.

p.s. I like the crisp uncirculated dollar that came with it.

Great and simple
This book has seven cool little designss, a Buffalo Bill Badge, A Bowtie, A ring, a Dime-In ring (dime doesn't stay in very good), a jumping frog, an elephant and a peacock. They are all very simple to make and olny take about 5 minutes or so. Buy this book. I know you'll be satisfied

Celebrating 70: Mark Mcgwire's Historic Season
Published in Paperback by Sporting News (November, 1998)
Authors: Bernie Miklasz, Ron Smith, Mike Eisenbath, Dave Kindred, Jack Buck, Albert Dickson, and The Sporting News
Average review score:

Mark McGwire's 70 Comes Alive!
Relive Mark McGwire's historic 1998 assault on the single season home run record with this magnificent book overflowing with full-color photos and amusing anecdotes. "Celebrating 70" charts the slugger's season, home run for home run, and features a bevy of information - complete with pictures - including the date of each long ball, the distance, and which pitcher was christened with the dubious distinction of yielding one of Big Mac's clouts! Along the way, you can read a brief summary for each game McGwire applied his trade. The pictures have been well chosen, conveying the emotion of each moment. The text matches the shear exuberance of the images, and Jack Buck's forward is simply splendid.

Outstanding!
The 1998 baseball season was truly one of the most magic in recenty years, thanks in part to the "home run battle" between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. This book chronicles their achievement which I suspect will grow to legendary tones in the years to come. The sportmanship between these two hereos was evident all season long, and the book reflects that.

Perhaps it was fitting that McGwire should wind up in a city that is a true "baseball town," and one that could truly love and cherish his accomplishment. I remember watching the game on TV where McGwire broke Babe Ruth's home regular season home run record and even the Cub players stood and applauded him. This book remembers that.

It starts off with pictures of McGwire and a nice foreword by Jack Buck, the longtime St. Louis Cardinals' broadcaster. There's also a brief story about Maris and Ruth, the men McGwire chased for most of that long summer. And then the home runs. Each page is devoted to a description of each one; the date, the opposing pitcher, the final score and so on.

Reading through each page brought back all those wonderful memories of the 1998 season for me. This book is a wonderful treasure and keepsake to celebrate an incredible baseball season by one man.

Celebrating 70 is historic
For the strongman from Pomona, California playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Summer of '98 was one long victory parade. A reminder of seasons past & a celebration of baseball future. He became a national hero & role model with class. He gave baseball back its luster. In this large, glossy, colorful homage to one fabulous boy of summer - the team of writers, photographers, designers & editors has given us a memorable, collectible, hit-by-hit, play-by-play story of a modern grand adventure. What a gift!

Letter from Peking
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (October, 1975)
Author: P. S. Buck
Average review score:

A compelling international love story
"Letter from Peking," a novel by Pearl S. Buck, is narrated in the first-person by its main character, Elizabeth MacLeod. Her narration begins from her home in rural Vermont in 1950. Elizabeth has been separated from her husband, Gerald, due to the poltical upheaval in China; he has remained in China to attend to his duties at a university. Gerald is the son of a Scottish-American and a Chinese woman.

As the novel unfolds, Elizabeth reflects on her past life with the absent Gerald. She also tells the story of her ongoing relationships with her and Gerald's son, Rennie; with Gerald's elderly father; and with other people in her life.

"Letter" is a fascinating look at how international political forces can act like a "tidal wave," affecting families profoundly. The book is also an intimate look at a marriage from a woman's perspective, and a compelling study of a biracial young man (Rennie) who is struggling with his dual heritage while making the passage to manhood. There is also an element of political intrigue and danger, although the focus of this book is family relationships and emotions.

Although the dialogue is occasionally a bit stiff, overall I was very impressed by the subtle artistry of Buck's prose. She has an eye for details: an old man's dragon-headed cane, the birth of a calf, "arching maple trees blazing with autumn fire," etc. At its best she attains a delicate, economical poetic prose. This is a fine novel by a writer who, in my opinion, deserves more attention.

A chaming and a page-turning love story
'Letter From Peking' is a wonderful story, who I think is one of the best books I've ever read. The main character, Elizabeth MacLeod has to face many heartbreaking memories as she receives this letter. The author has done a very well job by putting some of Elizabeth's memories back and forth, from China to the present. Even though I'm only a twelve year old Korean boy, it wouldn't matter which book I read, neither sad nor happy. It all matters about the story, and how it goes. I know a lot of Chinese history, so it made sense to me, in this book. It is a pity that this wonderful book has gone out-of-print, but if you have a used bookstore, run, don't walk. You should really get this wonderful book. If you actually succeed in getting this book, you have gotten a very special classic treasure.

A charming and a page-turning love story.
People should really run to a nearby used books store. This is one of the most inspiring and touching book I have ever read. Even though I'm a Korean and of course, an oriental, 12 year old-boy, I think this is one love story that touches everyone. The author has done a very, very good job of taking one piece and placing somewhere else like rearranging the story. It has the memories of the speaker who was in China, which in this case Elizabeth MacLeod. Its a pity that it is out of print. But you should check every used bookstore. If you are successful of finding Letter From Peking, you have earned a prized treasure.

Sanctuary

Authors: Faye Kellerman and Buck Schirner
Average review score:

Diamonds are a detective's best friend
Peter Decker and his wife Rina are enjoying family life with her sons and their new baby daughter when Rina's old friend Honey Klein asks to come visit. Rina is surprised because they hasn't been in close contact with Honey in recent years, but she agrees to the visit. Meanwhile Peter works with his partner Marge on a case involving an entire family who have suddenly vanished. The husband is a diamond dealer, and there are many motives for a possible murder, most of them having to do with money. Coincidentally, after Honey comes to the Lazarus home, her husband, also a diamond dealer, is mysteriously killed. Peter's quest for the truth in these matters eventually takes him and Rina to Israel where they pursue missing persons from both of these cases. As usual, author Kellerman weaves interesting facts about the orthodox Jewish religion as well as Peter and Rina's evolving family life. The trip to Israel adds an extra dimension to the story, and the total package is very satisfying for a mystery reader.

One of the best in an incredible series!
In my book 'Sanctuary' is one of the best in the Peter Decker/ Rina Lazarus series. The story revolves around the missing husband of Rina's friend. The search takes Rina and Peter to Israel where we are treated to a fascinating tour of the West Bank and the diamond trade in Israel. What makes this entry so important today is the portrayal of the continuing conflict and violence that shapes Israel's future and her people. It is a pleasure to read a book that is both thoughtful and fun to read.

My only other suggestion if you are new to Faye Kellerman is to start at the beginning with 'Ritual Bath' to see the relationship between Rina and Peter unfold. Then read all her books in the order in which they were written. Its a great series.

One of Faye Kellerman's best!
In my book, this title vies with 'Ritual Bath' and 'Justice' as Kellerman's best. As with 'Ritual Bath' the reader is treated to the all encompassing traditions of Judaism. Although the Honey Klein angle seems to get more emphasis in reviews, I found the diamond merchant subplot more believable and fascinating. Descriptions of Israel and the West Bank were super--I enoyed the travelogue. Faye, give us more!

West Wind Review
Published in Paperback by Southern Oregon University (01 May, 1999)
Authors: Ramana Lewis, Judy Kinney, Daniel Buck, Editor Ramana Lewis, and Kirby Wright
Average review score:

A good read.
Don't judge a book by it's cover doesn't apply in this case because not only is the cover of West Wind Review a work of art, but so it the writing. I love the prose poems/sudden fictions in this book. Please keep up the good work.

Sheer joy to read.
Why can't all reviews and anthologies have the same quality of writing as West Wind Review? I am NEVER disappointed in the work that comes out of this anthology. I think this one will be a collector's edition because some of the writers are headed for Pulitzer Prizes.

West Wind Review is terrific!
I recommend this anthology to anyone wanting a break from trendy genre novels, boring non-fiction, me-me-me poetry and nonsensical language poetry. Writers in West Wind Review are superb at mixing humor with pathos on their quests to find the meaning of life. You know how most writers seem to be trying too hard and sound fake deep? Not this group. Check it out.
